The ToolBox!
Recommendation: there will be a lot of free registration tools...choose one username (your school district username can be a good choice) and one simple (!) password. Most of these registrations don't have security issues...it's just so you can save and continue your work.
The top four (as recommended by my online tech-friends):
Blogs - A way of writing and/or creating your own website. Short for web-logs. Author may be a single person or multiples.
Wikis - "wiki" is the Hawaiian word for "quick." While blogs are linear and usually used by one person (or classroom), a wiki allows multiple users to be writing and working at the same time. Some can be moderated, access designated to readers or writers. This is a wiki and you'll be able to edit, add, create, and share your own resources.
Voicethread - Powerful but simple tool for instruction, asynchronous discussion, and assessment.
Del.icio.us - A way of bookmarking so that not only are your bookmarks "portable," but you can share them with other teachers, with students, or keep them private. "Social bookmarking"
Other fun and useful tools:
Bookr - use the available pictures on flickr and create your own book!
Toondos - create your own cartoons with built-in characters (lots of tools) and your own text, then save and/or embed on your website, blog, or wiki
Pikistrips - create "cartoons" using your own pictures and add dialog, save and/or embed on your website, blog, or wiki
