TO SET UP A GOOGLE GROUP
Go to google and under the “more” tab select “groups”
At bottom of page select “create a group”
Fill in the fields, select Restricted access to keep it private to invited and accepted members only
At bottom of page select “create group” and do the image verification:
You can then invite members or skip this step (I skip this step and make the kids find me)
This screen appears:
Click on “group settings” on the right and then you can see the group’s email and web address:
I tell my students this information and then make them go to the group web address. It will prompt them to request membership (see separate pages on how to join a google group)
Once they request to join then you need to go into “management tasks” and review all pending memberships and approve your students.
I then send a welcoming email to the group’s web address and welcome them, set up behavioral expectations and then make them go to their gmail and see if they received it.
I email lab instructions and homework sheets. Also on the group website there is a file section and the students and you can upload files to be shared with the group
